Ranch dressing is a staple condiment in my house. It goes with so many different foods and adds a creamy, savory element, which I love. I grew up on this ranch dressing and I still make it to this day. It was my mom’s recipe, passed on from a friend (good recipes travel far!).

Whenever I try store-bought ranch dressing, I’m always disappointed by how it tastes. Plus, it’s full of unnecessary ingredients that I don’t need. Besides the amazing flavor and creamy texture of this ranch, it’s so much healthier than the store brands you can buy.

Healthy:

This recipe allows for alterations depending on what you like. If you’re health-motivated, you can reduce the mayo amount and exchange it for more yogurt or sour cream. You could even use homemade mayo or avocado oil mayo if you’re extra health-conscious. If you want a runnier dressing for salads, you can use buttermilk instead of yogurt, or if you want a thick dip, then use sour cream instead of yogurt. Change it up! I like the mayo and yogurt combination myself, but this recipe is super easy to alter according to your preferences.

In addition to this ranch being so quick and easy to make, you’ll feel a lot better about eating it because of the simple ingredients. No need for the store-bought stuff anymore!

Budget-Friendly:

Another thing to love about this homemade ranch is that it’s budget-friendly! Do you really want to pay more for extra ingredients you can’t even pronounce? For this recipe, your only food expenses are for ingredients that you likely already have in your kitchen: yogurt, mayo (or sour cream and buttermilk if you want to substitute and change it up), and dried herbs. Even if you had to go and buy all those ingredients right now, they would more than pay themselves off, especially for good-quality ranch dressing.

Unlike most ranch dressing recipes, this one’s perk is that it includes a large batch recipe for the ranch seasoning, so you can pre-make it and save time when you need to mix up more dressing. Just grab your premade seasoning and add a tablespoon or two to your wet ingredients.

For the Ranch Seasoning:

1. Gather the ingredients for your ranch seasoning mix:

  • 3/4 cup dried parsley
  • 1/4 cup minced dried onion
  • 1 tablespoon dried chives OR dill (you can use either one, or do half and half of each for flavor)
  • 3 tablespoons onion powder
  • 3 tablespoons garlic powder
  • 2 tablespoons salt
  • 2 tablespoons black pepper

2. Combine all ingredients and mix in a food processor until very fine. Keep in mind that a lot of food processors are not completely leak-proof (even with dry ingredients), so you might see a “cloud” of powder rising out of the processor while you’re blending. To minimize powder clean-up, drape a damp cloth overtop of the processor until you’re done blending and the powder has settled.

3.  Store ranch seasoning mix in an air-tight container at room temperature in the cupboard. As I mentioned before, you can preserve it for many months this way.

For the Ranch Dressing:

1. Gather your ingredients:

  • 1- 2 tablespoons (to taste) of the ranch seasoning mix you just made
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1 cup yogurt, sour cream, or buttermilk (or a combination)

Note:

Remember, you can use sour cream to make a thicker dip, you can use buttermilk for a runnier dressing, or you could cut the mayo and replace it with more yogurt or sour cream for a healthier version.

2. Mix all ingredients together until well-combined. I like to mix the ingredients in a Pyrex measuring cup to minimize dirty dishes, but you can mix it in whatever works for you.

And that’s it! Like I said, this recipe is super fast and easy, especially if you make the ranch seasoning ahead of time. I usually make more seasoning mix whenever it runs out in my cupboard and then it’s ready to use for dressing anytime.
